The story is about a family that go on a road trip to take the daughter of the family, Olive to the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant in Redondo Beach, California. All sorts of mishaps occur on the way to the road trip such as Grandpa Edwin dying from a heroin overdose, the son discovers he cannot join the Air Force because he is color-blind, and the brakes of their mini-van stop working. When Olive reaches the beauty pagaent, she performs a dance to Rick James’ “Super Freak.”

Elton John sang the theme song of The Lion King.

This incident scars Maverick and he considers leaving the Navy. Maverick turns to another pilot named Viper for advice. Viper reminisced about what it was like flying with Maverick’s father in Vietnam. Maverick decides to stay in the Navy and become a top pilot after hearing the story. Another mission starts shortly after all the pilots graduate and then Kenny Loggins’ Danger Zone turns on as they get ready to start the mission.

Napoleon’s grandmother goes to the sand dunes and gets injured, thus leading to Uncle Rico moving in.

Napoleon meets a new classmate named Pedro Sanchez. Pedro decides to run for class President and decides to have Napoleon act as his campaign manager. Pedro ends up competing directly with popular student Summer Wheatley. In order to win the presidency, a speech has to be made and a talent performance. After Pedro gives his speech, he went back-stage because he was unprepared for a talent act. Napoleon steps in and unexpectedly starts dancing. The name of the tune was Canned Heat by Jamiroquai.

The song at the end of the trailer is called Paper Planes by M.I.A. The movie helped M.I.A.’s song reach the Billboard charts and gain popularity. The song was not added on the official soundtrack.
